The Explanation of True Knowledge

1. Listen now to the signs of "True Knowledge" (Sadvidya) whose attributes are extremely pure manifestations. When thought over repeatedly, they are acquired in one's own self.
2. One with this Sadvidya has the best of special qualities. Upon hearing of these qualities one feels supremely satisfied.
3. He is one who is sattvic in his demeanor, loving, peaceful, forgiving, compassionate, humble, always eager to help in good work, and his speech is like nectar.
4. One with such True Knowledge is supremely beautiful and adept, supremely strong and patient, supremely wealthy and benevolent.
5. He is very knowledgeable and a devotee, a great scholar who is detached, and a great ascetic who is very peaceful.
6. He is a good speaker, but is not involved in it for any gain. He has knowledge of all, and is respectful to everyone. He is great, yet modest with everyone.
7. He is like a king who is both religious and courageous. He uses discrimination, and is disciplined.
8. He is one who shows appropriate respect due to elders and family traditions. He is frugal in his diet and detached. He has basic knowledge of health sciences, has a helping nature, and he is lucky and successful with whatever he lends his hands to.
9. He does his work with no pride, and he is a devotee of God (Vishnu) among people. His wealth is his devotion and he praises God with great respect.
10. He is a philosopher and is detached. He is familiar with scriptures, and a gentleman. He is familiar with mantras and has many good qualities and values.
11. He is a sage who is holy and is given to good deeds, inner purity, and Self religion. He is untainted in his own duties and free of greed, yet he is also remorseful.
12. He has an interest and love for spiritual life, he lives a righteous life filled with good activities done with determination and courage. He has studied the Vedas and scriptures with ease, and is praised for his intelligence and introspective observation.
13. He is alert, shrewd, appropriate, logical, truthful, well-read, precise, diplomatic, agile, and unusual in many ways.
14. He knows how to give respect and honor, how be discerning, and he knows what action is appropriate in each situation as well as being aware of the signs of cause and effect. He is an expert speaker.
15. He is an alert, industrious aspirant and student of the Vedas and other scriptures. He is knowledgeable about spiritual science with firm resolution.
16. He engages in chanting and repetition of mantra. He visits holy places with firm discipline even if experiencing bodily discomfort. He is a worshipper with firm resolution and understanding.
17. He speaks the truth with auspicious words. He is soft spoken and true to his word, and he always speaks with confidence in a pleasing manner.
18. His desires are fulfilled. He is a yogi of great depth. He is grand, pleasing, non-attached, mild, pure, on a righteous path, straightforward, and has no addictions.
19. He is knowledgeable and appreciative of the qualities of music, he is diplomatic in gatherings of people without any selfish motives, and he is friendly with everyone and all living beings.
20. He obtains money by proper means, he is faithful to his wife and behaves in a just way. He is clean within, clean in the activities of his life, and clean in his renunciation of them. He is clean in everything without any attachment.
21. Out of friendship, he does good for others. The sweetness of his words makes sorrow disappear. He is a powerful servant of all. He is a friend of all because of his great strength.
22. He is a great speaker who can clear all doubts. He understands all of the thoughts of the listener, and in his explanations he does not say anything that is not full of meaning.
23. He can have a dialogue without any argument. He speaks without any attachment, obstructions, or anger. He is faultless without any jealousy.
24. One with this True Knowledge is firm in the Self and a content worshipper. Being both the accomplisher and the accomplished, he exemplifies spiritual practice.
25. He is of the nature of ease and contentment, and joy and cheerfulness. His nature is of unity. He is one with the Self and with everything.
26. He is fortunate, victorious, successful, has a nice appearance, good qualities, and is well behaved when engaged in activity. He is steadfast in his thoughtfulness (vichara).
27. He is successful, famous, strong and powerful. He is heroic and benevolent, truthful and virtuous.
28. He is knowledgeable and an artist with abundant good qualities. He is from a good lineage, has a history of holy deeds, and is strong and kind.
29. He is tactful and virtuous and senior in standing, as well as intelligent and courageous. He is initiated, and is always content. He is desireless and unattached.
30. Let this talk be. These are some of the best qualities of True Knowledge. In order that these qualities may be studied, a few have been spoken about.
31. The beauty of one's appearance cannot be obtained with studies, and there is no remedy for the attributes that one has naturally acquired at birth. However, some study should be done to acquire attributes of Sadvidya.
32. These are some of the attributes of this Sadvidya. Everyone should have them, but especially the dispassionate one should certainly develop them.
