Worship of God with Attributes

1. Saints and Jnanis who are incarnations of God have become liberated through their discrimination and investigation into Essence and non-essence. How does their "power" work?
2. This was the doubt of the listener that was raised as a good question. The speaker responded, "Please remain alert and listen to the answer."
3. The Jnanis have become liberated in their life, and their power continues to be evident after the passing away of their body, but it is not true that they come back because of lingering desires.
4. People experience miracles and they consider them to be true. However, one must inquire and think deeply about this in order to see clearly.
5. When alive, so many miracles were taking place amongst the people around the Jnani that one does not even know how many such things have occurred. One must inquire into this in order to verify directly what this phenomenon is.
6. Even though the Jnani does not come back after leaving his body, he is actually seen by people to be present at some place or other. What can be said about such a miracle?
7. This happens according the to the faith of the people. God is seen to be real according to one's devotion and faith. Imagining otherwise is useless wrong thinking.
8. Something that is liked is seen in a dream, but from where has that thing come? It can be said that it was because it was remembered that something was seen.
9. Imagination is like this. Many various objects appear in a dream, but those actual objects do not really travel to that dream place. In addition to this, many objects appear in a dream even though they are not remembered.
10. Here the doubt has been cleared away. Do not imagine rebirth for the Jnani. If you still do not understand, then look and see with proper discrimination.
11. The Jnanis became liberated while alive, but their power continues on even after the passing of their body because of the virtuous lives that they led.
12. For this reason, tread on the path of virtue, support the worship of God, and do not give up justice by going down the path of injustice.
13. Continue with devotional practices, visit pilgrimage places, and enhance your power with the strength of your detachment.
14. When one's determination is fixed upon the realization of Reality, one's power increases on the path of Knowledge (Jnana). Do not do anything that takes away from your sense of Oneness.
15. One must have devotion somewhere, whether in one's Master or in the one God. Without devotion, everything is in vain.
16. If upon having gained knowledge of That which is without attributes, one ignores That which has attributes, such a "knowledgeable one" looses out on both sides.
17. For such a one there is no Devotion (Bhakti) and no Knowledge (Jnana), but only pride that takes over in between. Therefore, don’t give up chanting and repeating the Lord's name in meditation.
18. Even though one may be knowledgeable, by giving up the worship of God with attributes, one becomes unsuccessful in realizing Brahman, so don't give up the worship of God with attributes.
19. Worship without any desire in the intellect has no equal in all the three worlds. Desireless worship without any expectations cannot happen without strong power.
20. With desire, one gains various fruits, however when one worships without any desire or expectation, the devotee is one with God. Gaining some fruit and being God are two very different things.
21. There are many fruits that God can give, but worship with the desire for some fruit distances one from God. Therefore, worship God without any expectation or desire.
22. The fruit of worship without expectation is beyond measure. With it, one's power increases beyond any limit. The ordinary fruits coming from the satisfaction of desires cannot compare.
23. With desireless devotion, whatever may be going on in the mind, God is doing as oneself. One does not need to ask God as a separate entity for anything at any time.
24. When the power of the devotee and God are one, even death is powerless. In that power, anything else is less significant than an insect.
25. Therefore, the "Knowledge of Brahman" combined with "Desireless Devotion" is supreme. Even all of the three worlds combined fall short in comparison.
26. Here the brilliance of the intellect is at its pinnacle, and one's glory, fame, and success are immeasurable.
27. Many people are attracted to where explanations and investigation into one's True Form, and the explanations about God are taking place.
28. Where there is one who is not corrupt, his Self-Realization cannot be concealed. The satisfaction of true conviction is never disrupted.
29. Inquire into what is Essence and what is non-essence, and always look to see what is justice, and what is injustice. The higher intellect is a great gift of God which can provide great understanding.
30. When the devotee remains singularly one with God, God gives that devotee his own intellect. Pay attention to this statement that has been made by God in the Bhagavad Gita. "I gave devotees intelligence of Oneness by which they may come to me."
31. The worship of God with attributes combined with the extraordinary "Knowledge of Brahman," gives the experience of contentment that is very rare in this world.
