Signs of a Spiritual Leader

1. Write cleanly and legibly. After writing, find and correct any grammatical mistakes. After correcting, re-read again making sure that there are no mistakes.
2. The characters should be written properly and the style of handwriting should be consistent. Stories being told should be made interesting by using colorful imagery.
3. The difficulty lies in the fact that what is known cannot be expressed in words, yet without proper expression nothing can be understood.
4. One should be able to narrate stories about God and give correct explanations. One should be able to know how to act appropriately with regard to politics and in everyday life.
5. One should know how to ask the right questions, and how to give explanations of meanings that please and satisfy everyone.
6. Such a man understands indications and has foresight of things to come. With alertness, the power of reasoning becomes strengthened, and many things are understood properly by persistently thinking them over.
7. One who understands like this is a "great spiritual leader" (Mahanta) who is intelligent. Apart from one such as this, all others will perish.
8. He understands the importance of timing, knows how to compose essays and poetry, and when to use important statements from various texts in the appropriate situations. He knows how to use tactful words in meetings.
9. He is eager to be in solitude, he learns the important things by heart, and he goes into the deeper hidden meanings of texts.
10. One who learns first and then teaches attains a high position and is able to free people from their difficulties with the power of discrimination.
11. His writing, reading, and speech is beautiful, and he walks gracefully. He shows Devotion, Knowledge, and Desirelessness by his example.
12. He likes to make efforts, and boldly handles situations successfully. He faces situations courageously and does not hide himself.
13. He knows how to behave in difficult situations. He knows to adapt to complex circumstances while keeping aloof and not becoming entangled by them.
14. Just as the Inner-Self is in all places but is invisible, his presence is felt in all places even though he is not anywhere to be seen.
15. There is nothing other than his existence, but if we go look for him, he cannot be seen. Without being seen, he directs the activities of all living beings.
16. He makes many people wise in various ways, and he explains many streams of subtle and gross knowledge.
17. Those who become wise because of him naturally become supportive and loyal to him. Such is the greatness of his wisdom.
18. He knows how to maintain justice and morality, and he does not let any injustice be done by himself or by others. He knows how to remedy difficult situations.
19. Such a person is worthy of being supported, and is himself the support of many people. Ramdas says that you should take up these good qualities of Lord Rama.
