The acacia trees of the Dafur region of Sudan are harvested for resins variously known as gum arabic, Indian gum arabic, or talha. Although acacia trees are found throughout the the sub-Saharan Africa, Chad, Eritrea, Kenya, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, and Sudan, the plant is most abundant in Sudan. The preferred resin comes from the Acacia senegal tree and is traded as acacia gum or gum arabic.

This resin is associated with the sun, as it thrives in warm, dry and sunny places. It is also associated with Air and Mars. This is a wonderful herb to use for incense, and it makes a good binder for other ingredients. It is said to ward off evil, and when burned with sandalwood, increases psychic abilities.
