Devotion Through Service

1. Previously, I have given the explanation of the attributes of the sixth type of devotion. Now, listen carefully to the seventh type of devotion.
2. Know that the seventh type of devotion is "Devotion Through Service." Remain always at the doorstep of God and do whatever service that you are called upon to do.
3. Cherish the magnificence of the one God who is all. One should not allow for any deficiencies in their devotion, but should increase and spread the adoration of God.
4. One should work to repair broken-down temples, and broken reservoirs and dormitories in the temple yards, or even build them anew if necessary.
5. One should renovate structures that are old and in a bad state. Do the work that comes to you without delay, and do it with care.
6. One should renovate the places for elephants, chariots, horses, thrones and sitting areas, beds, stages, hammocks, and vehicles. All these should be taken care of.
7. One should renew the canopies, umbrellas, ceremonial fans, totems with the sun’s image, and flags, and care for them them with great respect.
8. One should make efforts to care for the varieties of vehicles, the sitting arrangements, and varieties of seats.
9. Houses, store rooms, boxes, iron trunks, earthenware pots, large vessels, and pots and pans of different types should all be taken care of.
10. Tunnels, basements, underground cells, places with secret doors, and storage areas for keeping precious objects should all be looked after.
11. Ornaments, jewelry, decorative clothes, beautiful gems, golden items, and other metal objects should all be looked after properly.
12. Flower beds, forests, and gardens with big trees should be looked after. Care should be given to keep them alive.
13. One should take care of animal zoos, bird sanctuaries, painting galleries, many musical instruments, drama theaters, and talented singers.
14. One should construct large kitchens, dining halls, storage spaces to keep cooking utensils and grains, dormitories for guests, and comfortable places for resting and sleeping.
15. One should make storage places for various fragrant preparations, various types of food and fruits, and many different kinds of juices.
16. One should take care of many places and many objects, and if they are broken or run-down, one should make them as if new. The magnificence of serving God is such that it cannot be described, so how many words should be used to try?
17. One should be respectful to all in all places. One should be eager and ready to serve, and not forget to do the work allotted.
18. Special celebrations of birth anniversaries, auspicious periods, and festivals should be done on such a grand scale that upon seeing them even the Gods will be spellbound.
19. In these ways, one should propagate the magnificence of God, and one should not hesitate to do any types of menial service. Whatever circumstances come, be alert and act appropriately at all times.
20. Whatever is required should be done or given immediately. Do all service willingly with enjoyment.
21. On various occasions one should go to get water for washing of feet, or bathing, or for some other purposes, or go to get colored rice grains, clothes, ornaments, seats, or various flowers, incense, lamps, and food.
22. One should offer the best places for sleeping and keep water in a cool place, and arrange to have traditional enjoyments readily available, or organize some musical entertainment.
23. One should offer fragrances and essences, and many beautiful smelling oils, and wonderful foods and fruits should always be kept near.
24. One should sprinkle water around to clean various places, fill water vessels with water, and bring the clothes around after washing.
25. One should be welcoming to everyone, and guests should be looked after well. Understand that what is being described is the true seventh type of devotion.
26. Speak words of compassion and find many ways to give praise and pacify the minds of everyone. One's speech should be pleasant in this way.
27. Like this is the seventh type of devotion, explained to the best of my ability. If one cannot do all of this actually, then in one's thinking one should do mental worship.
28. Like this, one should be in service to God which is the same as serving the Sadguru. If it is not possible to always serve like this actually, then do the worship in the mind.
