The Description of Endeavors

1. There are many varieties of people in the world. By travelling, one can come to know of them and appreciate them, as well as discover that there are many varieties of discerning wisdom that can be found.
2. There are many people who are householders who live in a detached state. Their contentment does not become shaken by the joys and sorrows of life.
3. Their nature is such that they say only what is required to be said, and behave in a natural and appropriate manner. Their manner of speaking is such that they are respected by all.
4. Some people have a natural knowledge of rhythm and music that emanates from them very easily, and some people have a natural understanding of justice and propriety.
5. There are very few extraordinary people found among many who are loved by living beings and who always emanate a radiance of their presence.
6. Sometimes, by rare chance, such a person of great virtue is found. The significance of the greatness of such a person is felt immediately.
7. When such a person is found, it is marvelous to see his grand qualities. His actions and speech are always appropriate and consistent with his experiential understanding.
8. The worst among all vices is to consider one's vices to be virtues. When one makes such a great mistake as this, misfortune cannot be avoided.
9. Some people can accomplish great tasks easily without encountering any obstacles or difficulties, while some cannot achieve any success even when making great efforts.
10. What comes effortlessly and naturally for some cannot be obtained by others even after long and hard study. Such is the greatness of the activity of God which cannot be known.
11. There are many politicians who make mistakes in their political strategies that create many problems for them. Because of their mistakes, they are publicly disgraced, and are ridiculed everywhere they go.
12. Thus, if one does not make big political mistakes, there will be an abundance of solutions to various problems. If mistakes are made while trying to implement solutions, the attempted solutions will cause more harm than good.
13. If one is not able to understand what has gone wrong, it is not possible to make the situation clear in the minds of those involved, and the people on both sides will not let go of their positions due to pride.
14. As a result, the entire event and the relationships between the involved parties get spoiled, and people's minds become aggravated. Because of the lack of skill, nobody understands what went wrong.
15. If an endeavor is undertaken without proper planning and management, the whole affair will begin to deteriorate due a lack of forethought and an inability to exercise any control over the situation.
16. Some people are not endowed with any ability to get things accomplished. They are powerless because they have fallen into a web of wrong beliefs.
17. Such a person does not understand situations correctly and is therefore incapable of making anyone else understand. His mind is constantly running out of control, entangled in doubt and imagination.
18. Who knows what hidden imaginings are running through his mind, and who can bring them under control? It is up to each person to bring one's own mind under control with a strong intellect.
19. One who cannot manage large undertakings should not expand his activities. Such a person should keep his mind attentive to his current duties and be content in that.
20. If one carries out one's endeavors in haste, he becomes distressed and also creates troubles for others. Carrying out one's work in this way only creates trouble and turmoil all around.
21. If someone creates many problems for other people, and only becomes troubled himself, what is the point of engaging in such useless endeavors?
22. Understand that the nature of undertaking endeavors is like this. Sometimes everything works out well, and at other times endeavors do not meet with success. Knowing this, do your best according to the situation while being aware that your endeavors may or may not be successful.
23. People generally do not have any faith and are not inspired. It is up to you to awaken it in them at the same time taking care to make sure that nobody suffers any humiliation as a result.
24. Everything that happens, whether good or bad, is received by the Inner-Self, while That which is without attributes is not affected by anything. Understand that all of the various type of dangers and pitfalls happen only in the activity of Illusion.
25. The place of peaceful repose is pure and untainted stillness. It is there, in that changelessness, that all changes come to rest.
26. There, all sorrows and disappointments fall away, and the mind settles into peaceful repose. Such is the nature of Parabrahman which must be realized as being one's own True Form through the utilization of the power of discrimination.
27. Your realization should be such that you have no attachment to any titles or endeavors, any past relations or events, and there is no feeling of disturbance with regard to whether anyone comes or goes.
28. One who becomes wearied or disgusted with an endeavor should take some time away to sit and rest in peace. Why should one continue to be engaged in activity which is not getting accomplished?
29. It is natural that there should be times of activity and also times of peaceful relaxation. In this way, one is sure to get the proper rest that is required.
30. Any work or endeavor that is undertaken will not last forever. It is important to remember that there is nothing greater than being content in one's life. The human body is not acquired so easily, so one should use it wisely.
